Dr. Bargas becomes first OKC physician
to implant Abbott loop recorder in-office

Bargas Wellness’s approach to Integrative Cardiology includes use of cutting edge technology

Recently Dr. Bargas performed the first in-office implant of the Abbott loop recorder, which is a small device inserted under the skin of the chest wall to record heart rhythms and send data directly to the physician via cell phone. This cutting-edge device lasts three to four years and is a valuable tool in treating patients who suffer from episodic abnormal heart rhythms or who faint for unclear reasons. Until recently the procedure could only be done in a hospital setting or surgical center.

“This is a critical technological advancement that will allow me to better monitor and treat my Integrative Cardiology patients without the hassle of going to the hospital for the procedure,” said Dr. Bargas. “Functional Medicine is focused on finding the root cause of disease, and using advanced technologies to collect data is a vital part of how we practice medicine here at Bargas Wellness.”

Cardiac Health and the Flu

Did you know that people with cardiac disease are at a higher risk for developing serious complications from the flu? A 2020 study found that 1 in 8 patients admitted for the flu experienced sudden cardiac complications. Of those 1 in 8, 1/3 of these patients were admitted to the ICU.

Cardiac complications include the following: heart failure, hypertension, pulmonary heart disease, heart valve disorders, arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation, and congenital heart defects. If you or a loved one has any of the above we urge you to continue taking the proper precautions to promote health during these up coming months.

The CDC recommends that patients with heart disease take the additional precautions of maintaining at least a two weeks supply of prescriptions, do not stop taking your current prescriptions if you become sick without consulting your provider, and be alert to any changes in your breathing.
Did you know most insurances will cover the cost of getting your flu shot? Ask your local Pharmacy or PCP office if you qualify for a free flu shot.
Wash hands frequently as not to spread germs. Avoid touching your mouth, nose, or eyes after touching possible infected surfaces.
Be sure to cover your coughs and sneezes by concealing them with a tissue or turning your face toward the inside of your elbow.
