Dr. Bargas becomes only OKC physician certified by
Institute for Functional Medicine

Bargas Wellness is proud to announce that its founder and chief medical officer, Royce L. Bargas, D.O., has been recognized by the Institute for Functional Medicine as an IFM Certified Practitioner (IFMCP), making her the only Oklahoma City metro area physician to hold this honor.

Dr. Bargas, who is also a board certified cardiologist, earned the certification upon  completion of a rigorous two-year training followed by passage of both an in-depth case report and written examination.

"I am thrilled and honored to be recognized by the authority in functional medicine, and am excited to continue implementing what I have learned in to my Integrative Cardiology and Functional Medicine practice," Dr. Bargas said.

In announcing Dr. Bargas's successful certification, Robert Luby, M.D., the IFM's Director of Medical Education, noted that Dr. Bargas is "now part of over 1,500 Certified Practitioners in the United States and around the world."

"At Bargas Wellness, our goal remains preventing disease and helping our patients get to the root cause of their health issues. My ongoing partnership with the IFM is a valuable tool in achieving that goal."

Need more than a 5-day reset?  Consider this group elimination diet

Dixie Mehrens, a local Functional Medicine Certified, National Board Certified and an AIP Certified Health and Wellness Coach, is offering an 8-week online, group, health coaching program that walks you through the Autoimmune Paleo (AIP) protocol.

This program supports you as you remove foods that are known to be triggers of inflammation and potential food sensitivities. It focuses on adding in nutrient-dense food and addresses other lifestyle factors that play a role in health such as sleep, stress management, movement, and connection. You can adapt it to fit your personal protocol.

Participating in a group program is a low-cost way to successfully navigate an elimination diet and discover your food triggers, hear what your body is trying to tell you, and address inflammation.

Is Functional Medicine or Integrative Cardiology right for you?

Conventional medicine is good at putting patients in a box and labeling a set of signs and symptoms with a diagnosis that is most often treated with pharmaceuticals. Functional medicine, on the other hand, is about thinking outside the box to reverse dysfunctional health processes.

Would you rather take pharmaceuticals for the rest of your life, or get to a point where you might not need them at all?

Having high blood pressure for any length of time
can speed up cognitive decline

A new study by researchers with the American Heart Association (AHA) finds blood pressure issues, at any age, can also create danger for a patient’s brain as well.

The team in Brazil says hypertension is a risk factor for problems with memory, verbal fluency, attention, and concentration. Health experts consider a systolic blood pressure (the first number) of between 120 mmHg and 129 mmHg to be elevated. Systolic pressure going above 130 mmHg or diastolic pressure (the second number) over 80 mmHg is considered hypertension.
